Create A Simple But Beautiful Table For Christmas

/ / /

I cannot wait to show you how to create a simple but beautiful table for Christmas! I absolutely love to have a pretty table set up in my dining room / kitchen (it’s all one room). This serves two purposes …

It makes me happy to see one spot in my home that looks like it has its life together.

And

The dining table is located by our backdoor and laundry room making it a main thoroughfare for clutter collection and the ideal spot for laundry folding.

When the table is set it cuts down on both of these activities because we don’t want to mess up the pretty!

But when I have created a tablescape for whatever season it is, whichever holiday we are celebrating or just because for everyday it makes me feel ready for guests, for ourselves and we have a nice spot to gather around!

To make setting a table simple without too much fuss I follow a formula – one for the centerpiece and one for place settings. I want to share my Easy 1-2-3 Formulas to a Beautiful Table Every Time with you!

Create a Simple But Beautiful Table With The Centerpiece Formula and The Place Setting Formula

A Simple But Beautiful Table For Christmas Needs A Centerpiece

The formula for a centerpiece is ENTERTAIN + CONTAIN + TRAIN – let’s explore each step!

Centerpiece Formula – Entertain

This is your focal piece -the big wow! Can be
one piece or a grouping.

Think outside of the floral centerpiece!

I used a wooden sign as my wow with an apothecary jar filled with tarnished compote bowls, brass deer and candlesticks with bottle brush trees.

  • Table Tip – Use two of the same wooden sign back to back so each side of table can enjoy.

Centerpiece Formula – Contain

How will you contain your focal piece?

The apothecary jar contains the compote bowls and small china dishes on the brass candlesticks contain the bottle brush trees.

  • Table Tip – use poster putty to temporarily adhere pieces (Candlestick+Dish+Tree)

Centerpiece Formula – Train

A runner and/or a few pieces to “train”
out of your focal piece!

I used vintage hymnal pages overlapped as a runner. A garland of lamb’s ear was placed in the middle of this and miniature ornaments, which look like berries, were placed throughout the leaves of lamb’s ear.

  • Table Tip – Leave a space in the middle of your train for your entertain and contain!

A Simple But Beautiful Table For Christmas Needs A Unique, Welcoming Place Setting

The formula for a place setting is ELEVATE THE PLATE + MATE + CREATE – let’s explore each step!

Place Setting Formula – Elevate
the Plate

Take the plate to the next level and use a
charger and/or a placemat.

I use a galvanized metal charger under my plate.

  • Table Tip – Get creative. Use a game board, a wood slice, or fabric and lace to elevate the plate.

Place Setting Formula – Mate

Place your mates to the plate – napkins,
silverware, glassware.

In the How Do You Create A Whimsical Holiday? eBook that has more craft, baking and gifting ideas from the Whimsy Wednesday gals I share place setting charts for casual tables and more formal tables. The only thing I did not include is where cell phones go on the table, because they don’t belong! 😉

At each place setting I used a cut crystal drinking glass, golden silverware, and homemade napkins tucked into a fun vintage drawer pull used as a napkin ring.

Place Setting Formula – Create

Create something pretty, unique and / or personalized for each place setting.

At each place setting I used

  • A plate topper that says rejoice (many words are available to purchase) and a tiny bottle brush tree is tucked in the napkin ring with the napkin.
  • The Nativity Flash Cards at each place setting encourage conversation about favorite Christmas songs.
