I love to add old cones of yarn, crochet spools, and vintage sewing supplies to vignettes. These items add great texture, a unique history, and beautiful shapes and colors. spindles wood circles and crochet thread

I Used

Spindles Or Dowels, I used spindles from a thrifted piece
5 inch Wood Circle Plaques – I got these at Hobby Lobby
Double Ended Wood Screw
Dixie Belle Caviar Chalk Mineral Paint
Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in White
Paint Brushes, one for paint and one for wax
Titebond Quick and Thick Glue

The Steps For An Easy DIY For A Crochet Spool Holder

Three Steps To A Crochet Holder

Step 1

Give each plaque one coat of paint
Paint each spindle (or dowel)

Step 2

Mark the center of the plaque
Drill a pilot hole where you have marked center
Using a double ended screw and titebond glue to attach spindle (or dowel) to your wood circle plaque

Step 3

Apply wax to your spool holder with a paintbrush
Wipe away excess wax with paper towel

Making The Spools Vintage For Your Spool Holder

Since I will be using this crochet spool holder in a vignette I wanted to make them look old. From the thrift store these spools were just too white!

Using this brush and a dark brown ink pad rub ink on the spool in the direction of the thread.

Inking a new crochet spool to make it look old

After inking you can tell the difference in color. It makes these bright white new crochet thread spool look very vintage. I love how they turned out!
