An Easy Way To Recreate A Vintage French Laundry Basket
Is there that one piece you want for your home? When you find it you think to yourself “why is it so dang expensive?” Well that one piece for me was a vintage French laundry basket! So as any good DIYer does I found an easy way to recreate a vintage French laundry basket. And I want to show you the simple and inexpensive process to make your own.
French Vintage Look Laundry Baskets
What You Need To Recreate A Vintage French Laundry Basket
I used a round metal laundry basket I found at the thrift store. This was paired with a plant stand I found at the Dollar Store.
Wire Baskets And The Stand I Used!
- Wire Mesh Stackable Utility Storage Bin, Small Round
- Round Metal Laundry Basket – Wire Hamper
- Iron Wire Laundry Hamper Laundry Storage Basket With Handles
- I could night find the exact plant stand I used but this is similar – Wrought Iron Metal Plant, Birdbath Bowl Stand
The Steps To Recreate A Vintage French Laundry Basket
Three Easy Steps
Step One – Paint
I spray painted both the basket and the plant stand black.
Step Two
I like to say my life is held together with zip ties and a prayer! And that’s what I used to attach the basket to the plant stand. Six zip ties fed through the holes on the plant stand and around the wires of the basket bottom.
Step Three
I rubbed a little Dixie Belle diamond mousse in silver on the basket and the plant stand to make it appeared aged. You can also use Rub & Buff in silver.
A Vintage French Laundry Basket Recreated Easily

My IBC Friends And Their Projects
I have joined the International Bloggers Club (IBC)! The IBC is a group from all over the world who challenge each other every month to make something using a common theme. This month’s theme is Organization.
Below you’ll find my friends’ amazing organization projects!
- Tea and Forget Me Nots – Rachel created this from a crate, what a fantastic idea!
- A Crafty Mix – Michelle used a unique material to make this shelf.
- Unique Creations by Anita – Anita made this super useful storage and organization piece for every artist’s tools!
- Birdz Of A Feather – Sara made another version of a place to organize artist’s tools. With these two pieces as inspiration there isn’t a way to stay unorganized!
Awesome repurpose Kristin! It looks like it was always like that. I had no idea Behr even made a spray paint so will have to check that out!
Thank you Sara! I am really liking the Behr spray paint. Its good coverage but more importantly its a skinnier can for my little hands!
So very clever, Kristin. If there’s one thing that irritates the living crapamoly out of me, it’s picking up our laundry basket every time I want to sweep or vacuum the floor. Putting one on a chair looks fantastic and it’s super functional too. Double win.
Exactly! Sweeping and cleaning the laundry room floor will be so easy without having to pick up the baskets!
This is adorable! Such a more convenient height for storage now. I think I’d use it for gloves and scarves.
Thank you Rachel! I am hoping the height helps my child see wear to put laundry! 🙂
Really great repurpose and it does look like the real thing. I had to giggle about your comment about the cable tie because I am the same way.lol
This is really great and it looks like the real thing. Great job!
Thank you so much Cindy! I absolutely love the way it turned out!
Such a great idea! I love how you took two simple items and by putting them together and painting, it looks so high-end! Pinning now!
Love this, Kristin! I have a wire basket that has been sitting around for a few years. Think I’ll buy a plant stand and casters with screws. I can use E6000 to glue the screws inside the plant stand legs. Voila!
What a terrific idea to put wheels on it! I am so glad this inspired you to “fifth sparrow no more” your wire basket and create something new 🙂
