Make Your Own Brass Deer Decor From Plastic Toys
Brass decor is so popular, from candlesticks to deer in the fall and winter its something we all look for when out thrifting and antiquing. But it is getting harder to find it out “in the wild” so to speak. That is why I am showing you how to make your own brass deer decor from plastic toys so you can have the popular look of brass but very inexpensively.
Supplies For Making Brass Deer From Plastic Toys
- Deer Figurine, you can also find them in the thrift store toy or craft section, stores like Hobby Lobby
- Metallic wax in vintage gold
- Dixie Belle Silk Mineral Paint in Anchor
- I love these paintbrushes (I used a small one in the set for the black paint)

Two Simple Steps To Make Your Own Brass Deer Decor From Plastic Toys
Paint your deer black. I used the Dixie Belle silk mineral paint in anchor because it has a primer and top coat built in. I thought this might help the paint stick to the plastic better. Alternatively you could spray paint your deer black.
Next rub on your metallic wax – I used vintage gold from art alchemy. I used my finger to rub on the wax, it seemed the easiest way to get the right coverage and to get in the nooks and crannies.
I did try Dixie Belle gemstone mousse in amber first but it was way to brown for the look of brass that I was attempting!
